The Sonata For Solo Cello: Joanna's Tale was written at the request of the Warsaw Uprising Museum in Warsaw in connection with the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising.
Dobrawa Czocher was then invited to collaborate on the opera D'arc, created especially for this occasion and directed by Krystian Lada. The artist played the character of Joanna, a young cellist full of dreams of a solo career, who has to face the everyday life of war. Czocher gave Joanna not only her body but also the Sonata, which through sounds tells about her fears, fragility, drama but also dreams, hope and strength. The opera was a tribute to all women who had to live in times of war and who, although they could not fight, created history with their everyday heroism.
In addition to the solo sonata, the artist prepared several other new compositions inspired by the Cello Suites by Johann Sebastian Bach and several other solo pieces. The whole set strongly refers to the musical roots of the classical music artist, although the personality of Dobrawa Czocher and her modern approach to the cello will still be felt in it.
